CREATING HYPERLINK IN WEB INTELLIGENCE

1.      Create two reports in Web Intelligence and export both to the Central Management Server. Since the object has to be passed to the second report, create the second report with user prompts which is going to get the objects that are sent from the first report.

Fig1.2 Hyperlink2.WID (Second Report)

The First report (Hyperlink1.WID) shows the sales revenue and quantity sold for all states and second report (HyperLink2.WID) shows the sales revenue detail for the particular selected state achieved using Query Prompts.

2.      To create Hyperlink in first report, open Business Objects Enterprise Java Infoview and open the WebIntelligence document (Hyperlink1.WID). Select the Object that is to be linked with the second report then RIGHT CLICK –> Hyperlink –> New…

3.      A new window will open for creating hyperlink as shown below, select Link to document tab

Fig3.1 Create Hyperlink Window

4.      Click Browse, select the second report (Hyperlink2.WID) and select ok.

5.      Select Refresh on open option from Hyperlink properties in Create Hyperlink Window and select the options as in following screenshots below.

6.      Then the report will look like what is shown below, as hyperlinks for the object that is selected.

7.      Click the link from Infoview, which leads to second report after a confirmation from default web browser. Click Ok.

8.      For instance, when Texas link is clicked it will go the second report, showing the state wise sales details of efashion for Texas alone.

    hi Dinesh,

your information is very useful and I like it. May I know the version of BO product that you’re using on this sample? This is because when I tried in my development server, I right click on the object, i don’t have the option “link to document” or “link to web page”.

    • April 26, 2011 at 3:56 am | #4

      Hi syahida,

      Thanks for the comments,
I am using Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1 sp3 edition for these samples. Before trying this, check for the preferences option in the infoview, because this option will be available only when viewing and the editing options for web intelligence is changed from ‘Advanced‘ to ‘Interactive‘.

What to do if the second report requires two prompts? For example, City and Year?

    • July 27, 2011 at 8:36 pm | #7

      Hi Yvonne,

This method of creating hyperlink will detect the prompts from the second report, there is no restriction
it doesn’t matter with one or two prompts, this will automatically detect the prompts which is used in the second report when we browse and select the document.

    Really Helpful Article Dinesh,

How to create relative path for this webi report because when we migrate from Dev to QA how this report will work?

    • September 14, 2011 at 12:49 am | #9

Yes it will work after deployment. There is no need to create the link again for QA. Since this process works with IFRS/OFRS and taking report CUID into account, it works fine even after deployment to QA to PRODUCTION.

    Hi Dinesh,

Thankyou very much for the detailed tutorial.

However while trying to create the hyperlink. I am getting a problem.

I created the link & it is working but it is not showing the particular states results, instead it is showing all the details. I have used the same prompt in both the reports. What object should we select in the Tooltip option (Fig6.1a Options).

Can you please help me out

    Thanks

    Hi Dinesh,

this works fine, but when you need to open the drilled report in the same window (in Infoview), the value “current window” actually does not work. It opens the documents on the top of each other.

I have Webi report and drill through to a report in Crystal Reports, then on click returns to the Webi one. I need to stay in the same window, but Infoview opens new window on each drill through, so when user is done, he actually has 3 windows opened on top of each other.

Any ideas on how to drill through from one report to another in the same infoview window?

    REgards,

    Jan

Hi Dinesh…Thanks a lot for the steps…I did samething what you have mentioned regarding hyperlink. But I am getting error when I click on the link of the objects, the error is ‘Database error, ODBC connection error,WIS 10901′.

If I run both the report individually, it is running fine. I am not sure why I am getting this error.

    Any thoughts

    • March 9, 2012 at 1:55 am | #17

      Hello Grace,

Please check whether you are using an upgraded version of ODBC drivers for particular database.

      Thanks

    Hi Dinesh

I am new to this and have not used hyperlink creations in WEBI.

My user has a specific requirement.

    1. He has 5 of WEBI reports say R1. R2, R3, R4 and R5 currently run separately. All of these reports use 4 parameters say P1, P2, P3 and P4.
    2. He wants to create a new WEBI report say R6 to accept the parameters (P1, P2, P3 & P4) 3. He wants to run the report R6 that in turn should pass on the parameters for all the 5 reports namely R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 and run them.

I have done this type of activity in Crystal report using the subreports that would accept the parameters from the main report and run all the subreports.

    1. Is it possible to do this in WEBI?
    2. What are my options?

My understanding about the WEBI report is to give facility to users to create and run their reports as required using the Universe.

Your timely suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Regards

    Vijay

      Hello Vijay,

You can achieve your requirement using open document functionality, Please refer to the blog below,

here it explains how to open two or more Webi documents in hyperlink with parameters

I have been looking for a similar post listing the steps to be followed to have hyper linking achieved in XI R2 environment. Will you be able to do a similar post in XI R2 or can you forward me the link that state the same?

    • May 2, 2012 at 2:25 am | #21

I don’t think there will be a similar functionality as we do in Web Intelligence (UI for creating Hyperlinks). I don’t have a version right now to show you. Anyway it can be achieved by Open Document functionality or using some HTML coding. Please refer the link mentioned below,

Hi Dinesh, Thank you very much for the posting. Can you able to help me out in removing the confirmation for the default browser(between step 7 and 8) when we click the hyper link, it should go to the linked report with out asking the confirmation “Are you sure you want to move away from this page?”. I believe we will get this confirmation pop-up in windows-7 OS only. I dont remember of getting this in XP OS. Any suggestions/comments?

    • May 26, 2012 at 3:51 pm | #23

      Hello Kiran,

I am not sure whether we can remove the confirmation message, it is a browser’s default thing and also it is clear that the user interface way of creating hyperlink has no options to eliminate this confirmation message. Anyway I will check this with some java scripts in Open Document functionality and let you know. Others who are visiting this thread can also suggest us on how to remove the above mentioned confirmation message. Please update the comments if you have any idea on this.
Thanks Kiran, for coming up with such a good question, this is really important like most of us don’t want this confirmation all the time when we click the hyperlink.

    Hi Dinesh,

Thanks for the nice post. I tried to do the same but when i am opening my report in infoview to set the hyperlink to other report its showing me the option to create a hyperlink to a webpage only that it parses..its not showing me the option for link to document as you have shown above in your example.

Can you please tell me if this option is available to a specific service pack/fix. i am using BO XIR3 SP3 and SP5 on different environments.

    Thanks & Regards,

    • June 16, 2012 at 10:49 am | #25

      Hello Jitendra,

The problem would be in the mode of view in user preferences option. Before trying this, please check for the preferences option in the infoview, because this “link to document” option will be available only when you change the viewing and editing options for web intelligence from ‘Advanced‘ to ‘Interactive.

      Thanks,

      Hi Jitendra,
You have to change the settings in WebI.
Go to Preferences–> WebIntelligence–> Select a default view format “Interactive” and Select a default creation/editing tool: to “Interactive”.
Then if you right click on the field to create a hyperlink, then you will be able to select a report to which you build a link. These options are basically to edit the report with out JAVA VM.

Hi, Is it possible to provide a hyperlink to point to another tab in the same report?

  19. Ram
    August 13, 2013 at 7:20 pm | #31

In one Tab first half of the grid just have the links lets say google & yahoo. The second half of the grid to have the link or web page.
Example: I click on Google at the top(First half of the grid) it should show Google page in the second half of the grid without leaving the page.
    Is this possible…

    • August 21, 2013 at 7:22 am | #32

You could do something like that in Infoview Preferences settings for Home screen, where you have options to split your screen. you can have report as well as links on these split screens

Great article! My only issue is that in report 1, there are 5 prompts initially selected prior to running the report. Then, when drilling, I am able to select the correct prompt as identified in your steps above, but is it possible for the 2nd report to automatically inherit the first 5 prompts selected from report 1?

    • January 10, 2014 at 10:18 pm | #36

yes daneo. it will get inherited.

      • daneo233
        January 11, 2014 at 1:20 am | #37

I’m currently still trying to get this to work. The initial 5 prompts at the parent report are query prompts that are not getting passed on to the child report. Further, the child report has the same prompts associated at the query level (they are two separate queries, but with identical prompts). So, when creating the hyperlink through the wizard, it asks how I want to respond to the 5 child prompts – and I’d like the prompt selections to be inherited from the parent prompt.

      • January 19, 2014 at 9:26 pm | #38

please answers those prompts with user response functions, then the sub report will catch the parameter from parent report

    Hi Dinesh,
Your post is very helpful. Can advise what should be selected in webI 4.x version in preferences tab?

    I have the following requirement.
The user needs to select few input controls(say 5 fields) and based on the result of input controls, say 10 products are listed for Product name column, these 10 products should again have an option to be chosen( say another input cpntrol for Product name) and final report should be displayed only for chosen 3 products out of 10 products. In real case, there may be 100 products and the 10 products are displayed after making various selections for other fields in input control.

    Please advise

Option 1: Instead of input control, have the first set of selection as prompts and get the product names. Use this selcted product name as input to another query and display input ctrl of Product name in that.Performance wise , may not be gud.

Option 2:Input ctrl selections-> get display of product names->(10 available now)-> have hyperlink-> another report->use input ctrl in second report->out of 10 ,3 can be selected.( I am trying to do this)

    Hi,

I have created Hyperlink as you mentioned above, want to know how actually hypelink works? Meaning, when I click Hyperlink, does this takes a prompt with value “Y”. I saw background script and it has the prompt with value “Y”. I understand when you select a particular hyperlink field it takes the value “Y”, meaning it was selected. Is that so?
